Ilona Taborosi, 92, of New Britain, passed away peacefully after a long illness at home on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. She was the widow of Laszlo Taborosi who died in 1978.
Born in Sarvar, Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Istvan and Yolanda (Netischil) Naszados. Ilona was a New Britain resident since 1956, emigrating to New Britain after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution with her Family. Ilona was a graduate of Teachers College in Hungary and was an elementary School Teacher before she got married and started her Family. In New Britain, Ilona started a long career in retail sales and was formerly employed as a Department Manager at J.M. Fields in New Britain. She later became an Assistant Manager and Manager of the BD Store in downtown New Britain. She was a longtime member of All Saints Church in New Britain, until the church closed in 2002. Ilona then became a member of St. Peter Church. Ilona was well known for being an animal lover, especially her cats, who were with her to the end. Ilona was also well known for her Hungarian Cooking. She enjoyed cooking for her Family and Friends, and always appreciated a good eater at her table.
Surviving are two sons, Major Laszlo Taborosi Jr. US Army Retired of Leavenworth, KS and Steven P. Taborosi of New Britain, her caregiver for many years; and two grandchildren, Laszlo R. Taborosi and Marci I. Taborosi of Leavenworth, KS. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Agnes Peterson, a brother, Dr. Istvan Naszados of Sarvar, Hungary and her Daughter in Law, Raietta Taborosi of Leavenworth, KS. Ilona was blessed with many good friends during her life, several who passed away before her. Ilona was also blessed to have a longtime special friend, Maria Schmidt of Kensington, CT, who along with Ilona’s son Steven, was by her side when she passed away. Ilona and her Family appreciated the excellent care given to her by Hartford Homecare Hospice. Special thanks to her visiting Nurse, Kelly. Also special thanks to Eva, her Homecare Aide.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, at 9 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Peter Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, March 22, from 5-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
