Howard Ziegler, Sr.

Howard J. Ziegler, SR of 231 Copper Mine Rd. Unionville, entered into eternal rest on March 3, 2002 at the Subacute Center of Bristol. He was the widower of Adeline Semrow Ziegler to whom he had been married 52 years. Born on Feb. 2, 1910 in New Britain, he was the son of the late Jacob C. Ziegler and Mary Ritz Ziegler. He retired from the Southington location of Pratt and Whitney in 1972. He was a avid gardener and was known for his yard full of oriental poppies which blossomed Memorial Day weekend. He also cultivated a half-acre vegetable garden. His son and daughter-in-law, Howard J. Ziegler Jr. and Sharon Saunders Ziegler of Middletown survive him. He is also survived by a brother, Robert ''Otzie'' Ziegler of Kensington; two sisters, Madeline Brandt of Bristol and Elizabeth Stabert of Pennsylvania; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond Ziegler, Frank Ziegler, and Harold Ziegler; and by three sisters, Lillian Ziegler, Marie Bobecke and Mildred Haman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be Monday afternoon today from 2-4 PM. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Conn. Humane Society, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
