Hilda May Melinoskas formerly of New Britain and Middletown passed away peacefully after a long illness, Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Avery Heights, Hartford, CT. She was the widow of Peter P. Melinoskas Sr., who predeceased her in 2004. Hilda leaves behind her beloved children, a daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Louis Morris Bard of Bristol; a daughter and son-in-law Linda and Larry Carlson of Newington; and a son and daughter-in-law Peter and Sue Melinoskas of Keller, Texas. Also surviving are her much loved grandsons and their families; Albert Wanat and his wife Maria of South Windsor; Russell Bard of Newington; her adored great grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda and Kristina Wanat and Jacob Bard; a loving sister-in-law Anna May of New Britain, six nephews and two nieces. Hilda was also predeceased by a granddaughter Paula Lyn Wanat, and two brothers William and Herman May. She was born May 7, 1920 in Essen Germany, daughter of the late Herman and Augusta Ross May. She was a continuous member of St. John's Lutheran Church in New Britain for 78 years, since coming to the United States with her family at the age of 7. Hilda was a member of the church choir and was active in the Ladies Aid Society. With her husband Peter, they were owner and operators of Pete and Hilda's Luncheonette in New Britain for 10 years. Hilda later was employed at Emhart Corporation, retiring in 1978. After retirement she enjoyed time spent with family, friends, volunteering and some traveling. Hilda's greatest joy was her beloved husband Peter of nearly 65 years of marriage and her loving family. Always ready to lend a helping hand or show a kindness. Her life was spent loving, caring, and sharing in her very special way. Special thanks to the staff at Avery Heights, Noble Residence and Lucy Swift Unit 2 for the care, compassion and kindness shown to Hilda during her residency. We wish to especially acknowledge Anna Lukas, RN, Nurse Manager of the Lucy Swift Unit and nurses, John and Justina for their constant caring attention and support shown not only to Hilda, but also to her family. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
