Higinia Rodriguez Velazquez, 73, of New Britain, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 at New Britain General Hospital. She was the widow of Juan Velazquez. Born in Cidra, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Justo Rodriguez and Julia Berrios. She was a New Britain resident since 1966 and was a member of St. Mary Church and the Cursillo Movement. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Juan Felix and Antonia Velazquez and Edward Velazquez all of New Britain; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Carmen and Jose Jusino, Luz Velazquez, Julia Velazquez and Hector Ortiz, and Lisa Velazquez, all of New Britain; seven grandchildren, Julia Andrea Ortiz, Gabriela Ortiz, Jasmin Velazquez, Jasleen Velazquez, Cristina Velazquez, Nathalie Jusino, and Edgar Blanco; seven brothers, Genaro, Justo, Julio Juan, Benjamin, Victor, and Miguel Rodriguez; four sisters, Luz Mercado, Olga Rodriguez, Carmen Reyes, and Ana Julia Rodriguez; many nieces, nephews, and special friends; and her beloved Spanish Community at St. Mary Church. She was predeceased by two sisters, Paula Rodriguez and Juana Segarra. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 6-9 PM. Higinia requested that bright colors be worn to the services in celebration of her life.
