Harry Aharon Hougas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in New Britain on December 15, 1930. He was predeceased by a younger brother Samuel and by his parents, Asadour and Varsenig Hougas, who emigrated from Armenia in the late 1920’s. He is survived by his loving wife Carol; his son Todd; and his daughter Amy, her husband James Moshovos, and his beautiful grandchildren, Dylan and Kaitlyn Moshovos.
Harry graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1958, enlisted in the army that same year, and served in Korea for 16 months. Upon returning home, he eventually joined the Factory Insurance Assoc. as an Underwriting Trainee, advancing to Account Executive. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Toronto, Ontario to assist in opening their first international office known as Canadian Industrial Risk Insurers. He was promoted to Underwriting Manager and after 4 years returned to the U.S. as a Division Manager.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM at The Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, in New Britain. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1910 Stanley St., New Britain, CT 06053.
