Gordon C. Wicke, Sr.

Gordon Calvin Wicke, Sr., 93, of Hartford, beloved husband of the late Marian (Dorey) Wicke, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in West Hartford, the son of the late Albert and Jesse (McLean) Wicke, he had been a Hartford resident for 71 years.  Gordon was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and served on the Island of Trinidad as an Aviation Machinist. He owned and operated his own Taxi Cab for 42 years before retiring at the age of 70.

Gordon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather is survived by his three children; Linda Wicke and her partner Joseph Maudsley of East Hartford, Gordon Wicke, Jr. and his wife Kathleen  of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina and Stephen Wicke and his wife Mary of Newington; six grandchildren; Susan Gervais and her husband Mark of Wethersfield, Salvatore Capasso Jr. of New Britain, Sandra Field of Orwell, VT, Christopher Wicke and his wife Valerie of Newington, Dean Wicke and his wife Pamela  of Holland, PA and Stephen Wicke II; ten great grandchildren, Samantha and Nicholas Gervais, Ashley Pouliot, Gabriella Capasso, Mackenzie Altman, Coleman and Mallory Field, Dorian Wicke, and Evan and Alex Wicke.  He was predeceased by his brother, Gilbert Wicke and his sister, Esther Schofield and dear friend, Carol Dorey.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.  Burial, with military honors, will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Avery Heights, 705 New Britain Ave., Hartford, CT  06106.  Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
