Giuseppe Campagna

With a heavy heart and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Giuseppe "Joe" Campagna, 90, of New Britain, beloved husband, father, and great-grandfather. Giuseppe passed away in the home that he built with his talented, hardworking, and loving hands, surrounded by his devoted family. Born in Italy, he was the son of the late Nicola and Maria Caterina (Romeo-Arena) Campagna. He was also predeceased by his sister, Lisa Criniti and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Giuseppe came to New Britain in 1954 and was well known as an expert, self-employed mason. His talented work can be admired throughout the greater New Britain area and beyond. Giuseppe enjoyed annual visits to Italy with his family. For numerous years, he was the proud president and member of Calabria Mia Society, I Calabresi del Mondo and a member of St. Ann's Church. Giuseppe was a holy man who was most notably devoted to Santa Caterina VM Alessandrina and the Madonna of Pompeii. Surviving are his most loving wife of 64 years, Maria Rosina (Marino) Campagna; his loving daughters, Rina Campagna Giannini, Etta Setaro and her husband Gaetano of Wolcott, and Dr. Marisa Cartiera and her husband Ernesto of Cheshire; two brothers, Vincenzo Campagna and his wife Maria of New Britain and Mario Campagna of Old Lyme; a sister, Rose Fazio of Plainville; and four loving great-grandchildren whom he adored, Domenic Campagna Setaro, Marina Teresa Setaro, Carina Campagna Cartiera and Siena Giuliana Cartiera. Also surviving are many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews in the United States, Italy and Australia. All who were blessed to know Giuseppe, loved him and saw him as a model family man. His selfless nature, kind-hearted ways and compassionate soul instilled these traits in all who knew him. His loving family was his heart and will always feel truly blessed and honored with his love. They will forever hold him in their hearts and continue to follow his exceptional example of unconditional love. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Ann's Church.
