Gertrude N. Semrow

Gertrude N. Semrow, 82, of Southington, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014. She was the widow of Robert A. Semrow Sr. She lived in the home she built with her husband which she adored deeply and was a lover of life. Born in Feldbach Austria, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maria (Krenn) Neuhold. She was a graduate of Hillyer College (now University of Hartford) and was formerly employed as a legal secretary. After her children were grown, she was employed as a real estate agent. Gertrude was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Britain. Surviving are a daughter, Diane Cabral of New Britain, her husband John and daughter Victoria Cabral; her companion and special friend, Clifford Snow of Southington; her son Robert A. Semrow Jr. of Old Saybrook, his daughter Kelly Semrow of Southington, and her children, Eli and Gavin; a beloved sister-in-law, Dorothy Fuller of New Britain; many dear nieces and nephews, and special family in Austria. Gertrude spent her summers in Old Saybrook loving the beach and was an active member of the Calendar House Senior Center in Southington. With her incredible friends she participated in dinner parties, bowling leagues, Nutmeg Glass shows, and danced the polka. She travelled the world with her daughter Diane, son-in-law John, and granddaughter Victoria to Alaska, the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, Baja California and the sunny islands of the Caribbean. Her close friend, Cliff accompanied her to Goodspeed Musicals, many trips including Austria to visit family, and a multitude of UCONN football and basketball games which they loved attending. They attended countless holiday parties and dinners together with Diane and loved watching her granddaughter, Victoria play in her collegiate softball games. Gertrude loved the energetic visits from her granddaughter Kelly, and great grandsons Gavin and Eli that always put a smile on her face. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 AM at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St. New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Robert A. Semrow Scholarship Fund at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 295 Arch St., New Britain, CT 06051.
