Gertrude E. Hintz, 89, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Jerome Home after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of William E. Hintz for 63 years.
Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Ethel (Markie) Stephenson. Gertrude was a lifelong New Britain resident. A graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, Class of 1950, she was employed as a registered pharmacist at a number of local pharmacies before retiring from the Hospital for Special Care. Gertrude was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Britain where she served on the Altar Guild and the Church Council, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the quilters group.
In addition to her husband William, she is survived by two sons, Daniel E. Hintz, of East Haddam, and Robert W. Hintz, of New Britain; a daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Hintz and her husband Bill Marsteller of Rockville, MD and their children, Sarah Marsteller and Matthew Marsteller; and several nephews. Gertrude was predeceased by a sister, Jean Simms.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 295 Arch St., New Britain. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 295 Arch St., New Britain, CT 06051.
