Gertrude worked for more than four decades at New Britain General Hospital in New Britain Connecticut, before retiring to care for her grandchildren Angel L. Aponte III and Daniel D. Aponte.
In 1955, she met and married her lifelong love of 42 years, The Late Isaac “Ike” Daniel Green, in Bristol, Connecticut. Three children were born from this union: the late Michael D. Green, twin daughters Rosalind (Green) Tucker of Norcross, Georgia, and Robin Michelle (Green) Aponte of New Britain, Connecticut.
Gertrude and her husband Isaac moved to New Britain, Connecticut, in 1964. In the years that followed, while maintaining an unwavering trust and belief in God, the Greens purchased a home and educated their three children
Her favorite activity was going to Saint James Baptist Church in New Britain Connecticut, where she was a missionary and usher, as well as a devout bible and Sunday school student. In 1982, she became a member of Second Baptist Church in New Britain, Connecticut, where she served the Lord until her final days.
Gertrude is survived by two daughters, Rosalind Tucker (James) and Robin Aponte (Angel Jr.); two sisters, Bernice Richardson and Rose Johnson; three grandchildren, Ashely Green, Angel Luis Aponte III (Deonne), and Daniel David Aponte (Kayla); five great-grandchildren; Noah, Callie, Olive, Eli, and Zoey and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The Home Going Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 11 AM at the Second Baptist Church, 55 Chapman St., New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 10 AM to 11 AM at the church.
