George Gadzik

George Gadzik, 84, of Chadds Ford, PA, formerly of New Britain, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007. He was the widower of Helen Gadzik. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Stanley and Anna Hamilla Gadzik. He attended local schools and was a graduate of New Britain High School. He and his late brother John were the first two brothers to volunteer for the Navy from New Britain during World War II, enlisting on Dec. 15, 1941. They served together for a while aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin, until the end of the war. He served in both the European and the Pacific Theaters, receiving one bronze battle star in the European Theater and five Bronze Battle Stares in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local 777. He was formerly employed by the C.W. Hjerpe Co. in New Britain, until his retirement in 1985 Surviving are his daughter, Anne Riggs of Chadds Ford Pa; three brothers, Robert Gadzik and William Gadzik, both of New Britain and Walter Gadzik of Avon. He was predeceased by a brother, John Gadzik and a sister Eleanor Cocores, both formerly of New Britain. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, New Britain. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Byzantine Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday morning from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Panachida Service at 9:30 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, 121 Beaver St., New Britain, Ct 06051.
