George A. Ciarcia

George Anthony Ciarcia, 73, of Kensington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 at the Hospital of Central CT surrounded by his loving family and friends. He fought a long and courageous battle with various health related issues, which he faced with humor, grace and dignity.

Born in Ridgecrest, California, he was the son of the late John Ciarcia Sr. and Virginia (Pzynski) Ciarcia.  George was a former New Britain resident, moving to Kensington in 2005.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War. George graduated from Manchester High School and the University of Hartford with an Electrical Engineering degree and was formerly employed as a Master Electrician at Manafort Brothers.

George was a kind and gentle man who loved to make people smile and laugh.  He was an avid Yankee, NY Giants and UCONN fan. George was Past Governor of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and was a member of Independent Italian Political Club, American Legion Post 68, VWF Post 511, and Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara (King) Nanfito-Ciarcia; two sons, Jeffrey Ciarcia of Boston, MA, Christopher Ciarcia of Charleston, SC, his stepsons Jason Cassone and his fiancé Kimberly Kidd of Kensington, Daniel Cassone and his wife Kelley (Shea) of Cheshire and his cherished granddaughters Jocelyn and Danielle Cassone of Cheshire. He also leaves his much-loved twin sister Lorene (Ciarcia) and husband Donald Peronace of Southington, his sister Cathy (Ciarcia) and husband Gary Pasler of Unionville, his sister Maryann Ciarcia of Unionville, his brother Robert and wife Sherrill (Ziegler) of Winsted and his sister in law Connie (Wassmer) Ciarcia of Manchester. George also leaves his brothers in law Robert Buonafede of Westbrook, Richard King and his wife Jean (Hopkins) of Milton, New Hampshire, James King and wife Hongjie of Vernon and sister in law Patricia (King) Ingerson and husband Rod of Jefferson, New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews and friends especially Charles Colaresi, Richard Benson, Thomas Chesery, Dave Pattishall, Patty Murphy and his playful loving companion, his dog George.

George was predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Edward and John Ciarcia and sisters in laws Irene (Jones) King and Eleanor (King) Buonafede.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Berlin VNA for their years of service and especially the staff in the ICU for their professionalism and kindness in caring for George.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Church.  Burial, with military honors, will be in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin.  Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 12300 Twinbrook Parkway, Suite 410, Rockville, MD  20852 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
