George G. Benios

George G. Benios, 70, of Farmington, husband of Despina Nasiakos Benios, died peacefully Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Strigou, Tripoli, Greece, he was the only son of the late Gregory and Athanasia Alexopoulos Benios. He moved to the United States in 1951, residing in New London until 1959 and then in New Britain from 1959-1977 before moving to Farmington. A successful businessman and entrepreneur, he was the former owner of Fire House Pizza on Main St. in New Britain and Town and Country Pizza on Farmington Ave. in New Britain. He also owned real estate in both Connecticut and Greece. George was a well respected member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain, where he had served as a member of the Church Council. He was also a member of AHEPA Elpis Chapter 117, the Pan-Arcadian Society and the Masonic Lodge. In addition to his beloved wife Despina, he is survived by two loving children, Gregory G. Benios and Thania G. Benios, both of Farmington. He was predeceased by a sister, Ageliki Baroutis, and is survived by two sisters Theodora Benios and Irini Konstandinidis, both of Greece; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain and at 11:00 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 4-7 PM with the Trisagion service to be held at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main St., New Britain. Pallbearers will be Angelo Alexopoulos, George Alexopoulos, Costas Gournaris, George Nasiakos, Costas Nasiakos, and Christos Nasiakos. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of C9EI at Hartford Hospital for their loving care and generosity extended to George and his family.
