Gary E. Backlund

Gary E. Backlund, 70, of New Britain, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Helmer and Margaret MacKay Backlund. He was a life long New Britain resident and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was formerly employed at Pratt & Whitney in Southington for 30 years before retiring. Surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Joseph Bidwell of Simsbury; three nephews and their wives, Bruce and Marjorie Bidwell, Eric and Deidra Bidwell, Clayton and Toni Bidwell; and his three adoring grandnieces, Maggie, Annie and Laura Bidwell. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Veterans Section at Fairview Cemetery in New Britain. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain, is in charge of arrangements.
