Garabed "Charlie" Darakjian

Garabed "Charlie" Darakjian, 78, of New Britain, husband of Marta (Shamassian) Darakjian, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Born in Baghdad, Iraq, he was the son of Taniel and Mariam (Atamian) Darakjian. He was a New Britain resident for over 40 years and retired from Lord and Taylor at West Farms Mall where he worked as a tailor. He was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. Surviving are his wife, Marta (Shamassian) Darakjian; four children, Katherine Darakjian and her husband Daniel Zaborowski of West Hartford, Shant Darakjian of New Britain, Lisa Wells and her husband Robert Wells of Cromwell, and Lenna Darakjian of New Britain; two brothers, Leon Darakjian of New Britain and Sarkis Darakjian of Pasadena, CA; a sister Nevar Jarralah of Germany; three grandchildren, Shant Darakjian, Taeler Darakjian, and Lauren Zaborowski; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 5-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church, 167 Tremont St., New Britain.
