Evangelos K. Moutogiannis

Evangelos K. Moutogiannis, 87, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025.  He leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Aspasia.

Born in Doliana, Greece on December 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Konstandinos and Efrosini (Vastaki) Moutogiannis. Evangelos emigrated to the US in 1970 with his wife and young children. He was a resident of New Britain and Newington before moving to Southington.  He was well known as the former owner of Pizza Pal in New Britain for 35 years before retiring. Evangelos was a devoted member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain, where he formerly served as President of the church for 15 years.  Ever supportive of his local church, he devoted his time and energy to successfully organize the annual St. George Greek Festival, which brought together the community in celebration of the Greek culture. He was also a member of AHEPA and was honored as AHEPAN of the Year; additionally, he served as President of the local chapter of the Evrytanian Association of America "Velouchi."

Evangelos enjoyed helping and supporting the New Britain community.  He was instrumental in helping the City of New Britain establish a "sister" city in Greece.  He was well known for supporting and helping local veterans' organizations, the New Britain Police Department, and those in need. Evangelos was also an avid gardener, who enjoyed tending to his tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers (all important for a Greek salad).

Surviving are his wife, Aspasia (Stogia) Moutogiannis; three loving children and their spouses, Konstandinos Moutogiannis and his wife Mary, Eleni Demetri and her husband Phil Demetri Jr., Efrosini "Effie" Moutogiannis and her husband Minh-Triet Nguyen; seven grandchildren, Evangelos "Evan" Moutogiannis, Leah Moutogiannis, Phillip Demetri III and his wife Kelcy, Noah Demetri, Melissa Demetri, Hunter Demetri, and Aspasia Nguyen; and a brother, Yiannis Moutogiannis.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Nickolaou Moutogiannis.
