Ethel (Alverde) Ohanesian, 90, of New Britain passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Hospital of Central CT. She was the widow of Vaughn Ohanesian.
Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel Bordas Alverde. She was a New Britain resident most of her life and was formerly employed at Comet Manufacturing, before retiring. Ethel was a devoted member of the First Church of Christ in New Britain, where she served as a Deaconess. She was a former member of Martha Chapter #21, Order of the Eastern Star.
Most importantly, Mom loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, golfing and spending time with her friends.
Surviving are a son, George Ohanesian and his wife Susan of N. Bergen, NJ; two daughters, Jane Hoyt and her husband Edward of Burlington, and Caryl Ogonowski and her husband James of Bristol; two sisters, Mary Lou Dolce and Josephine Bordonaro; six grandchildren and their spouses, Kellie and David St. Germain, Kimberly Hoyt, Laurie and Greg Dunford, Nicole and Jeremiah Beers, Ashley Hoyt, and Scott Ogonowski; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Anita Lynne Ohanesian, two grandchildren, Christopher Hoyt and Kyle Hoyt, a sister, Anita Paulow, and by two brothers-in-law, Orlando Dolce and Julius Bordonaro.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at the First Church of Christ, New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So.
