Esther Gladys Lamson Rose, 92, of New Britain, widow of Philip Miller Rose, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at the Jerome Home. Born in Brookfield, VT on Feb. 28, 1912, she was the fourth child of Arthur Clair and Bertha Gladys Holmes Lamson. She attended Brookfield Elementary School and graduated from Williamstown High School in 1928. She received her teacher's training at Montpelier Seminary Normal School and attended UVM. She was a teacher at elementary schools in Brookfield and Braintree, VT. Esther was married in Brighton, MA on July 4, 1937. She attended Deaconess Hospital/Simmons College for nurses training. She resided in Brighton MA, Newton MA, Chester PA, Wallingford CT, and Willimantic CT before moving to New Britain in 1995. She attended Faneuil Congregational Church in MA, Trinity Methodist Church in PA, Yalesville Methodist Church in CT and First United Methodist Church of Willimantic in Mansfield Center, CT Surviving are four children, Dorothy Hopkins of Wallingford, CT, Martha Asman and her husband Robert of Woodbury, CT, George Rose and his wife Diane of Ipswich, MA, Norma Milkie and husband Kenneth of Vernon, CT; four sisters, Edith Boright, Irene Cady and Ruth Lane, all of VT, Carol Rousseau of CA; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, David Hopkins. A private memorial service for the family will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at 3:00 at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain, CT. A memorial service and burial will be in Brookfield, VT at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rose Family Fund at The First United Methodist Church of Willimantic, 29 Puddin Lane, Mansfield Center, CT, 06250 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
