Elvira “Vera” Cecere Buchholz, 88, affectionately known as “Dee Dee” by her nieces and nephews, died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 13, 2008 surrounded by her family members. She was the widow of Eldort Buchholz. Born in New Britain, and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Fauno and Concetta Roberto Cecere. After graduating from New Britain High School, Class of 1936, Vera went to work for Stanley Works where she worked for 46 years before retiring in 1984. Following her retirement Vera proudly assumed the duties as the favorite neighborhood New Britain Herald newspaper carrier. Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Constance and Bruce Davey of Brewster, MA, Patricia and William Johnstone of New Britain, great nieces and nephews, Cynthia Davey of Meriden, Bruce and Marty Davey of Warwick, RI, Billy Johnstone and Lori and Hank Beecher of New Britain, great great nephews Nicholas and Corey Beecher, Samuel and Joseph Davey, her god daughter Joanne Orlando, and her dear friend Nicholas Kupec. Her brothers Louis, Benjamin and Angee Cecere all predeceased her as well as her beloved sister-in-law Elizabeth Cecere and great nephew Craig Davey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.
