Elsie M. Johnson

Elsie M. Johnson, 95, beloved wife of the late Gunnard Johnson, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at New Britain General Hospital. She was born in New Britain on May 17, 1910, daughter of the late Charles and Henrietta Soderlund Melander. Elsie lived her adult life in Newington. She was a dedicated friend and teacher to children and young people through her church and Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was the oldest member of Bethany Covenant Church, Berlin, where she was a member of Covenant Women, a Sunday School teacher, and where she served on the Diaconate. Surviving are three daughters and their spouses, Carolyn and Dr. Charles Wahlberg of New Britain, Norma and Arthur Peterson of Cape Canaveral, FL, and Louise and Stephan Harlow of Merritt Island, FL; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 20, at 11:00 AM at Bethany Covenant Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Sunday from 3-6 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain.
