Elsie Vredenburgh Bjorklund, 99, of New Britain, died peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2008. She was the widow of Hilding Bjorklund. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Robin A. Vredenburgh and Mary Tomchek Bennett. Elsie was the manager for many years at The Outlet, a women's clothing store in New Britain. She was active in the YWCA Livewires and the local chapter of AARP. Elsie was a member of the New Britain Museum of American Art and First Lutheran Church of the Reformation where she took on many volunteer roles. Surviving are her sisters Eileen Mason of Niantic, and Bertha V. Knapp of Hyattsville, MD, her nieces Nancy Moriarty of Storrs, Linda Coleman of Stuart, FL and Niantic, Janet Whitford of Southington, Joan McCallum and Barbara Gilbert, both of Maryland, her nephews Einar Freberg and his wife Dirjke of New Britain, Roger Mason of Niantic, Richard Brown of Oakville, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Her brother Henry R. Vredenburgh, her sister Alice Brown and her Godson Robert Freberg all predeceased her. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12:00 pm at First Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 77 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
