Ellis A. Hultman

The residents and staff at Covenant Village of Cromwell express their sympathies to the family and friends of Ellis A. Hultman, 102, who died on February 6, 2005, at Pilgrim Manor Care Center, Covenant Village of Cromwell, Connecticut. Ellis Hultman was born January 22, 1903, in Gnosjo, Sweden to Ida and Franz Hultman. He had three brothers and four sisters. He grew up in Sweden and came to America at the age of 21. He arrived at Ellis Island with a bag and a few clothes and a willingness to work hard. He found a place to stay in New Britain, Connecticut at the Boarding House of Rev. Ellen Park's great aunt. Rev Park states that, "This is how he became part of the family." He worked at different jobs, finally retiring from Stanley Works in the shipping department. He had a deep love for his mother and returned as often as he could to Sweden to visit her and the family. In 1936 Ellis married Eva Charlotte Anderson. They had one daughter, Geri Nystrom. They remained in New Britain, Connecticut and became a part of the Bethany Covenant Church of that community, now located in Berlin, Connecticut. Here they met many life long friends, including Evelyn and Paul Olander and their family. Sis Olander notes that her children and grandchildren considered him to be like a loving grandfather to them. His daughter says that her father could not have been a more giving person. Helping people was a pleasure to him. Besides being a kind and loving person, he was also gifted with a keen sense of humor. He enjoyed carpentry, traveling the New England coast to remote and interesting places, and talking Swedish to whomever could understand. Ellis is predeceased by his wife, Eva. He is survived by his daughter, Geri Nystrom and her husband, Norman of Saratoga, California. Peace be to his memory. A Memorial Service will be held at the Pilgrim Manor Chapel of Covenant Village of Cromwell, Connecticut, February 8, 2005, at 10:15am. Officiating will be The Reverend Diane Stevenson of Bethany Covenant Church, Berlin, Connecticut, The Reverend Ellen Park, a close family friend, and The Reverend Susan Knight, chaplain of Covenant Village of Cromwell, Connecticut. A reception will follow the service at the Hilltop Lounge of Covenant Village of Cromwell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stained Glass Window Fund of Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill Street, Berlin, Connecticut, 06037. Expressions of sympathy for the family may be sent to Geri Nystrom 13515 Holiday Drive Saratoga, California 95070
