Ellen Vitalia Ziegler, 92, of New Britain, wife of the late Clifford Ziegler, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at the home of her son, William, surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Britain on June 2, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Veronica Casper. Mrs. Ziegler grew up with her brother and sisters in a Lithuanian household in New Britain, where she participated in a Lithuanian school, the Lithuanian Auxiliary and also sang in a local choir at St. Andrew's Church. Ellen was a hard worker, holding many jobs through out her life within the city of New Britain, including Corbins, New Britain Machine, and Fafnir Bearing. She was also a volunteer nurse's aide through the Red Cross and was a member of South Church in New Britain. Ellen has befriended many in her 92 years, but none so long as her friend, Mable Tryon of 67 years. She is survived by her son, William H. Ziegler and his wife, Cindy of Middlefield; three grandchildren, Buffalo B. Ziegler and his wife Joelle of Durham, Berkshire A. Ziegler and his wife, Katherine of Middletown, and Heather D. Page and her husband Adam of Middlefield; four great grandchildren, Bria M. and Brody L. Ziegler and Sonia V.A. and Dexter J.S. Page; two sisters, Millie Ackerman and Ann O'Brien; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Paul F. Ziegler and a brother, James Casper. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
