Ellen Ann Capner (Stover) Northup, 95, passed into eternal rest on September 26 at Arbor Rose in New Britain with her family by her side. She was the widow of Arvin Hume Northup, her devoted husband of 65 years. Born December 1, 1918 at Chestnut Hill, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Isaac Francis Stover and Edith Iredell (Lauterbach) Stover. Ellen graduated from The George School, Newtown, PA and Temple University. She studied art history and painting at Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia where she became an accomplished artist. Between 1950 and 1960, Ellen served as journalist for two Bucks County Newspapers. Her life of service included animal rescue, volunteer work for The Pocopson Home, West Chester, PA, and the local chapter of Red Cross. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity. Ellen is survived by her daughter Deborah and her husband Dr. E. Richard Leng of Berlin, grandchildren Hillary Ann Stover Leng and her fiancé Kenneth Giantonio, both of Newington, David Dennison Leng, his wife Dr. Jennifer Cayer and great grandson Graham Cayer Leng of Brooklyn, NY. Ellen was predeceased by a brother Francis and a sister Mary (Stover) Miller. Ellen's family acknowledges with gratitude the loving care she received at Arbor Rose, from nurses Lora, Fran and Debbie, from the staff of Southington VNA/ILS, Lillieth and Princess of Caring Nurses, as well as the abiding friendship of Dorothy Sweet, Jennie and Al Pierro, Rose Roziecki, Elaina Letendre, Ann Minor and Jake. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:30 pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Street, New Britain. Calling hours will be on Monday from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. At the request of the family, the graveside service at Maple Cemetery is private.
