Elizabeth Betty' Florence (Anderson) Williams passed on Friday, January 2, 2015 following a long illness. She was ten days shy of her 90th birthday. Betty resided in the Kensington section of Berlin since 1953. She was an accomplished vocalist and sang in the Senior Choir of Kensington Congregational Church for 45 years. Betty possessed a soaring soprano voice and was able to harmonize perfectly at will. She sang and assisted in the production of numerous local plays and musicals. In 1962 Betty wrote, produced and directed "Forward Though the Ages" for the 250th anniversary of the church. She served on the Diaconate, the Board of Trustees, the Music Committee and was an officer in the Women's Service League. Betty was employed in numerous capacities throughout her life. She was a co-founder of a successful answering service in 1967. From there she became employed with the Judicial Branch as an Administrative Clerk and Supervisor, retiring in 1990. Betty was a member of the Martha Chapter of the O.E.S. Sphinx Temple Lady's Club, the Republican Town Committee and served as an alternate for the Berlin Zoning Board of Appeals. She was also a leader in her local chapter of AFSCME. Betty displayed a legendary level of perseverance in the course of raising her four sons. She is survived by David R. Williams, Esq. of West Hartford and his wife Mary-Liz and their children Shea and Rory; Brian K. Williams of Kensington and children Aaron, Nate and Caitlin; John A. Williams of Plymouth and his wife Jona and sons Justin and Michael; and Paul R. Williams of Kensington and his wife Julie and son Alex. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Sharpe of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Betty is pre-deceased by her brothers Robert and George Anderson and sister Margaret Murray. There are also several nieces, nephews and a great-granddaughter. Elizabeth was predeceased by her former husband Jesse C. Williams. Calling hours will take place Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Erickson-Hanson Funeral Home, 411 South Main Street, New Britain, CT. There will be a service Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 10:00AM at Kensington Congregational Church, 312 Percival Avenue, Kensington, CT. Burial will take place following the service at Fairview Cemetery in New Britain. The family will receive friends at a reception at the church following interment at Fairview Cemetery. Betty requested that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Music Fund, Kensington Congregational Church, 312 Percival Avenue, Kensington, CT 06037. The family wishes to thank the staff of Saint Mary Home, 2021 Albany Avenue, West Hartford, CT for the excellent care and consideration extended to Betty throughout the course of her illness.
