Elizabeth A. Vartanian, 84, of Kensington, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Sarkis and Seranoosh Kaprielian Azarigian. She lived in New Britain before moving to Kensington in 1969. Elizabeth was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1940 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, and was also a graduate of Moody Secretarial School. She was formerly employed at Stanley Works and later as an Administrative Medical Assistant for Dr. David Waskowitz. She also worked at the South Church Daycare Center, before retiring. Elizabeth was a member of the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, a life long member of the Ladies Guild at church, and a member of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Organization ADL. She was an avid reader, loved gardening, and served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Elizabeth was a 35-year cancer survivor and was a member of the UCONN cancer support group. Surviving are her beloved husband of 57 years, Charles Vartanian; her loving children, Charles S. Vartanian of New Britain, Mark A. Vartanian of Middletown, and Sharon E. Vartanian of New Boston, NH; her devoted sister, Mary Omartian of Springfield, MA; two nieces, Lisa A. Omartian of Springfield, MA and Lauren M. Omartian of Belmont, MA; and several cousins in Connecticut, New York, France, Syria and Austria. She was predeceased by her brother, Hurach S. Azarigian. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain and at 10:00 AM at the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 5-8 PM with a prayer service to be conducted at 6:45 PM at the funeral home.
