Elizabeth "Betty" Klatt

Elizabeth “Betty” Klatt, 96, of Kensington, passed away on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at the Hospital of Central CT.

Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Wahlig) Klatt.  Betty lived in Deep River before moving to Kensington in 1969.  Betty graduated from Brown University, attended the University of New Hampshire, and received her Master’s Degree in Guidance and her 6th year program in Administration from the University of Hartford.  During World War II, Betty served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.  She was a teacher in Berlin, Groton, Durham, CT and Tokyo Japan and served as a Guidance counselor in Deep River, Waterford and Woodbridge.  She later served as an Admissions Counselor at Albertus Magnus College, and English Instructor at Business Career Institute.

Betty was a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Women’s Reserve Marine Corps Association, Brown Alumni and the American Association for Counseling and Development.  She was a long time member of Bethany Covenant Church.  She was a former member of the Amity Education Association, Connecticut Education Association, National Education Association, the Connecticut Personnel and Guidance Association, American Personnel and Guidance Association, American School, and Counselors Association, Connecticut School and Counselors Association, National Vocational Guidance Association, Connecticut Association of Women Deans and Counselors, National Association of Women Deans and Counselors, South Central Area Guidance Organization and the Fairfield University Advisory Board. She was also listed in Who’s Who of American Women.

Surviving are two sisters, Marian McIlvin of Cheshire and Ruth Olson of Plainville; and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at Bethany Covenant Church.  Burial will be in South End Cemetery in Southington.  Calling hours are Friday from 4-6 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.  Memorial donations may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT  06111.
