Elizabeth G. (Litke) Hebert, known as Betty among her family and friends, passed away at the age of 97, on July 12, 2025, at The Jerome Home in New Britain.
Elizabeth, the daughter of the late Frederick and Augusta (Zaft) Litke, was born in New Britain, CT, where she lived until 2001 when she moved to Kensington. For the past nine years, Elizabeth was a resident of Arbor Rose in New Britain until August 2024, when she moved to The Jerome Home.
Elizabeth was a graduate of New Britain High School Class of 1945. In 1988, Elizabeth retired from Stanley Works after 43 years of service.
Elizabeth was a life-long member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Britain where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. At St. John's, Elizabeth was a member of the Altar Guild, the Women of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) and Lutheran Adult Fellowship. Elizabeth was also a member of the Stanley Seniors and the New Britain Senior Center.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, her three brothers, William, Edward, and Arthur Litke, and her three sisters, Olga Margaret Plocharczyk, Mildred Stedman, and Eleanor Cichowski. Elizabeth is survived by two nephews, Roger Stedman and his wife Beverly, and Donald Litke and his wife, Margo, and several grandnephews and grandnieces. Elizabeth also leaves behind her very special friend, Patricia A. Ryiz.
Elizabeth enjoyed traveling with her sister Olga Margaret to Germany and several destinations in the US including Hawaii, Nashville, Las Vegas, and Branson, Missouri, among others.
Elizabeth was a very talented artist who enjoyed working in various mediums and taking art classes at the New Britain Senior Center. She also enjoyed crafting, needlework, crocheting, and knitting. As a member of the Stanley Seniors, she played cards weekly with her fellow retirees, and, enjoyed playing Bingo and Rummikub with the other residents at Arbor Rose.
Elizabeth's family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff at Arbor Rose, the nurses and CNAs at Hartford Healthcare, and the staff at The Jerome Home who cared for Elizabeth in the last year of her life.
A calling hour for Elizabeth will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025 from 10 am to 11 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. After the funeral service, interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT 06051. Memorial contributions may be made in Elizabeth's name to a charity of the donor's choice.
Elizabeth leaves behind so many people whose lives she touched with her sweet, fun-loving, and caring nature. She will be deeply missed.
