Edward J. Was, 81, of New Britain, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 3, 2006 at home. He was the husband of the late Marion J. Kraus Was. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Walter and Agnes Skarbek Was. He lived in New Britain most of his life and was a Plainville resident for three years. Edward was formerly employed at Colt Industries before retiring. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. Surviving are his beloved daughter, Susan Was; a grandson, Charles Was; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Edward J. Was Jr.; a daughter Cathleen Was; four brothers, Joseph Was, Stanley Was, John Was and Frank Was; and by four sisters, Mary Gajda, Rose Gajda, Helene Varhol, and Celia Was. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 8:15 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at Holy Cross Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
