Edward Joseph Kordoski, beloved husband of Rita (Grigor) Kordoski, passed away March 9, 2015 in the Hospital of Central Connecticut after a long and valiant fight against lung cancer. Ed was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on May 9, 1932, to the late Mary Slowik. His elementary education and Catholic instruction for Holy Communion and Confirmation was received at St. Clair's School, followed by attending Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, PA. At age 17, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training, he enlisted to attend airborne training at Fort Campbell, KY. He became a paratrooper with the 188th Airborne Infantry Support Company, 11th Airborne Division. With extended duty due to the Korean Conflict, Ed proudly served three and a half years of active duty. Upon discharge, Ed sought employment opportunities in Connecticut. Ed eventually became the vice president of Northern Industries, Inc., then served as its acting president until its sale. Ed then started Conn. Pipe and Valve; and was its president until it was sold to Regal Supply Co., where he continued to work part time, until he retired at age 70. Upon retirement, Ed and his wife took many trips with the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and the New Britain Museum of American Art, where she was a docent, and they both volunteered. Ed also took advantage of his leisure time at the Timberlin Golf Course, Kensington, CT, as a member of the Men's Club and the Seniors Golf Association. For most of his years in Connecticut, Ed belonged to bowling leagues and in October 1997, he bowled a perfect 300 game, placing his name in the International Bowling Hall of Fame, St. Louis, MO. Ed loved his work, his sports, and fun times, especially summer vacations at the shore spent with family , and all the holiday get togethers in Kingston, PA. His outlook was always happy and positive, and he embraced life. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife for near 56 years. He always loved coming home. He was proud of his sons , Edward W. Kordoski, PhD, Potomac, MD, and Mark P. Kordoski, Luzerne, PA, recently deceased, and loved them. Also surviving are his dear sister Joann Slowik, Wyoming, PA; his sisters-in-law, Anita Grigor, Kingston, PA; Constance Grigor, Silver spring, MD; and Loretta Truscinski, Waterbury, CT; and brother-in-law, Anthony F. Grigor, PhD, Laurel, MD; and daughter-in-law, Kyu Seon Oh, PhD, Potomac, MD. Ed also has two step grandchildren, Dawn Kratz, Moutain Top, PA and Lora Whitman, Wilkes-Barre, PA , and step great grandchildren: Keegan Kratz, Gates Marie Kratz, Karissa Whitman and Rebecca Mullen. On March 27, 2015 calling hours were held at Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerby Ave., Kingston, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, PA, followed by a burial service with military honors at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, PA.
