Edward I. Abraham, 89, of New Britain, beloved husband of Rosalie (Vasellina) Abraham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Hospital of Central CT with his grandson Abraham by his side. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Isaac and Lillian (Jacobs) Abraham and was a lifelong resident of New Britain. After graduating New Britain High School in 1942, Edward chose to serve his country. Edward was a US Army Veteran, serving during World War II and retiring as a Command Sergeant Major of 36 years. He was a self employed carpenter and later worked as a foreman for Anderson Fair Oaks. He retired as a Chief of Public Works as a building inspector for the State of Connecticut. Edward supported St. Joseph Church, was a long time member of the Marconi Club and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and the Carpenters Union. Surviving are his beloved wife, Rosalie R. (Vasellina) Abraham; four children, Robyn A. Kane of Madison Alabama, retired Command Sergeant Major Edward A. Abraham and wife Wendy of Agawam, MA, Cheryl M. Abraham of Woodbury, and Michelle Abraham of Plantsville; six grandchildren, 1st Lieutenant Michelle Kane, Abraham Kane, Nicholas Abraham, Alyssa Abraham, Samantha Abraham, and Serena Abraham; and eighteen nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by his oldest sibling George, and twin sisters, Julia and Mary Abraham. Ed's laugh was larger than life itself and will be missed by all that cherished him. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
