Edith Peplau, 91, formerly of Newington, widow of Edward R. Peplau, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at Andrew House in New Britain. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Olga Tietz Walters. She was a New Britain resident before moving to Newington in 1951. Edith was formerly employed at Elm Hill School in Newington and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Newington Congregation. Surviving are two sons, Richard W. Peplau and his wife Charlyne of Wethersfield, and Reid L. Peplau of Bloomfield; a daughter, Christine P. Shupenis and her husband Raymond of Collinsville; one brother, Henry Walters; four grandchildren, Brian, Derek, Tara and Erin; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Arthur Walters, Edward Walters, George Walters, Martha Boman and Ruth Willard. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
