Dorothy Speranza

Dorothy Speranza, 79, of New Britain, widow of Paul Speranza, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at UCONN Health Center in Farmington.

Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Rose (Wieczorek) Marek. Dorothy was a New Britain resident most of her life and attended Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin. She spent many summers at the family's seasonal home in Old Saybrook, where everyone gathered for good food, bonfires, and game nights. Christmas was her favorite time of year; she loved baking cookies, pies, and making pierogies with her daughter, grandchildren, and late husband. She also enjoyed quilting and crafting. Dorothy was an animal welfare advocate with a particular interest in wolf conservation.

Surviving are her daughter, Paula Edinger and husband Gary; a brother, Stephen "Unk" Marek; a sister, Barbara Stanowski; two grandchildren, Chrysandra Speranza, Alyssa Blumenthal and husband Josh; her great-grandson Harrison; and many nieces and nephews including Deborah Manchak. She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Manchak.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 5-7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 10 AM at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CT Humane Society or to the Stroke Survivors Fund at the Stroke Foundation.
