Doris Ann Bowden

A TIME TO BE BORN

Doris Ann Bowden was born December 22, 1953 to Mr. Herbert & Mother Addie L. Brown in Richmond, VA. She was the oldest of three siblings. In her early years, she and her family migrated to Connecticut. She received her education in the New Britain School System. In 1972, Doris received her High School diploma from New Britain High School in New Britain, CT. She further went on to proudly attend her “HBCU”, Winston-Salem State University where she received her Bachelors Degree in Accounting in 1980. While attending Winston-Salem State University, she received the great honor of being listed as one of Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. Later after completing her degree, Doris worked for the State of Connecticut as an Accountant for 24 years and retired in 2009.

A TIME TO TEAR DOWN AND A TIME TO BUILD

Sis. Doris grew up at Bethesda Apostolic Church where she was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She was a woman of faith, she would testify about God healing herself and her loved ones, and praise God like it was her last time; up until her last Sunday attending service. Doris is the mother of one loving daughter, Arcola Bowden; and one grandson, Devaughn Bowden, both of Bristol, CT. Besides her parents, Doris has a strong loving bond with her brother, Herbert Brown, Jr.; a niece, Shakieta D. Wadsworth; a nephew, Darnell O. Brown; two favorite aunts: Mrs. Cola Manghan of New York and Mrs. Direthia Eagleton of Clayton, North Carolina; two special cousins, Elaine Eagleton and Deborah Peterson; two “girlfriends”: Pastor Regina T. Harris of New Life Worship Center in Hephzibah, GA and Ms. Janice Moore of Macon, GA; two close friends: Clay Tyson and Shelley Pontes; a “God Sent”, Sis. Aldean Johnson, a coworker, and beloved friend, Barbara Young and a host of other relatives and friends.

A TIME TO LAUGH AND A TIME TO WEEP

Doris Ann was a youthful woman, who loved to dress up, get her hair, nails and makeup done. It was always important to her to look her best. She loved vibrant colors which perfectly matched her personality. She loved to cook and share food with everyone she loved. Her family was extremely important to her, she strongly believed in keeping everyone united and no one person was less important than the next, she loved everyone the same. Doris loved to travel with her family, and visit her loved ones in different states.

A TIME TO PLANT AND A TIME TO PLUCK THAT WHICH IS PLANTED

Doris not only loved her family and friends, but she also loved her church and church family dearly. She was always giving gifts to her Pastor and First Lady, fellow brothers and sisters, and the children. She would not miss a birthday or holiday, she seized every opportunity to spread her love. She has even given generous donations to renovate one of the church’s restrooms. She also loved to cook meals for those in need through Bethesda’s Feed the Need program. Sis. Doris has left a last mark on Bethesda, and her impact will live on.

A TIME TO DIE

Doris Ann peacefully transitioned at age 67 surrounded by her loved ones, her father, Herbert Brown, her daughter, Arcola Bowden, and her “personal nurse”, Keyonna Tartt on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 6:50pm at St. Francis Hospital. She was predeceased by one brother, Darnell Brown. Sis. Doris dedicated her life to serving others and now God has called her from labor to reward. We rejoice today knowing Sis. Doris has received her healing, and there is no more pain and suffering, she is resting in Jesus.
