Donald Helmer Nyquist, 84, of New Britain, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. Born in New Britain he was the son of Hjalmar and Vanda Nyquist. Donald was a life-long New Britain resident and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was formerly employed as a metal lather in construction before retiring. Donald was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Svea Social Club and a former member of the Wood, Wire and Metal Workers International Union. Surviving are a daughter, Donna Roberts and her husband Robert of New Britain; a son, Jeff Nyquist and his wife Katie of New Britain; two sisters, Mae Eisenhardt of New Britain and Victoria Eriksen of Santa Rosa, CA; and his life-long friend, Marie Rivers of New Britain. Donald was proud of his grandchildren , Jason and his wife, Heather Vocke; Adam Nyquist and his fiancé Cynthia Arthur; Shayla and her husband Christopher DeVito, and Ellen Roberts; as well as his four great-grandchildren, Jack and Claire Vocke, Abbe and Ryan DeVito. He was predeceased by three sisters, Svea Martin, Violet Martocchio, and Helen Rapacz. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 11 AM at the First Lutheran Church. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
