Dennis Roy Collins Sr.

Dennis Roy Collins Sr., 82, formerly of New Britain and most recently of Winsted, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. He was the son of the late Robert and Roberta (Richardson) Collins.

Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of strong faith. He loved his family above all else and took great pride in the lives of his children and grandchildren. His love, guidance, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dennis was a graduate of Wamogo High School and Middlesex Community College. He dedicated his career to serving with the Connecticut Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant in logistics. His commitment to service was an important part of who he was and reflected his strong sense of responsibility and devotion to others.

A lifelong Red Sox fan, Dennis had a special connection to baseball from an early age. One of his most treasured memories was visiting the clubhouse at Fenway Park as a child, where he had the unforgettable experience of sitting on the lap of legendary Red Sox player Ted Williams.

Dennis loved to play golf and especially enjoyed time spent on the course with family and friends. Above all, he loved playing in tournaments with those closest to him, creating memories that will be remembered for years to come. He enjoyed following high school sports and took great interest in watching and supporting local athletes.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 44 years, Eileen Collins; his sons, Dennis Collins Jr. of Torrington, Scott Collins and his wife Carol of New Britain, and Steven Collins and his wife Shauna of Glastonbury; his daughter, Christine Skutnik and her husband Todd of Winsted; and Christina Krupa and her husband Jeff of Plainville, who held a special place in Dennis’s heart and whom he loved as a daughter.

His family continues through his grandchildren, Alexis, Caitlin, Tim, Brendan, TJ, Michael, Courtney, Alyssa, Ryan, Collin, Matthew, Andrew, Brooke, and Tori, and his great-grandchildren, Amelia, Caleb, Layla, Sophia, and Sierra.

Dennis is survived by his brothers, John Collins and his wife Roberta of Torrington, and Rob Collins and his wife Diane of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, and his sister, Linda Hotchkiss of Terryville. He was predeceased by his sister, Cheryl Hautenan. He leaves behind many extended family members and lifelong friends who were an important part of his life and will forever remember the memories they shared with him.

Dennis will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his strong faith, his dedication to service, his love of golf and baseball, his enjoyment of high school sports, and the many memories he created with those closest to him. His legacy will live on through his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

May he rest in peace and in the loving presence of God, reunited with those who went before him, and forever surrounded by the love of his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, 195 So. Main St., New Britain. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. A calling hour will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.
