Denise M. Carrier

Denise M. Carrier, 67, of New Britain, daughter of the late Albert and Julia (Croteau) Carrier, passed away at home on Friday, Sept 30 ^th , 2022, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

Born in New Britain on Nov 12, 1954, Denise faced many challenges in her life, as a child born with developmental disability. Dr. Edward Scheer counseled her parents after her birth stating “There is no treatment for her condition. Just love her.”

Anne L. Ruwet, former C.E.O. for C.C.A.R.C. New Britain, wrote during her 2017-2018 Annual Appeal, “The Carriers sought help and found it in a grassroots agency formed by local parents of children with similar disabilities. These moms and dads started their own daycare, filed to become a 501 (c) (3) and pushed for public school education to become acceptable for all children. That organization came to be known as CCARC.”

She is survived by her siblings Diane Walker and her husband Richard of Plainville, William Carrier and his wife Elaine of Greenfield, N.H. and the Hon. Michael Carrier and his wife Rita of New Britain; an uncle Robert Carrier of Kensington; many nieces and nephews; and her Rocky Hill Ave group home community.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday Oct 8, at 9am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St, New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Francis Catholic church. Burial will be held at a later time in Quebec, Canada. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CCARC, 950 Slater Road, New Britain, CT  06053.
