David Arthur France, 85, of Farmington, beloved husband of Marguerite "Rita" France, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Apple Rehabilitation Center in Cromwell surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hartford, David was the son of the late Walter and Marion (Gowen) France. He was a former Kensington resident before moving to Farmington in 1971. David was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was formerly employed at Stanley Works and later as a carpenter at Genovese & DiDono before retiring. David was a member of the First Church of Christ in Farmington, where he sang in the Choir and served on the Building Committee. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and was a member of Unity Lodge # 148, Sphinx Temple Shrine, the Circus Association, Temple Guard and Zem Zem Shrine Club. David served as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and also served as a volunteer with Services for the Elderly in Unionville. Surviving are his wife Marguerite "Rita" France, with whom he had celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary this past June; a sister, Nancy Huff of Tuscaloosa, AL, two sisters-in-law, Carol Lee Bonaiuto and Lisa France; a brother-in-law, Norman King; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Arthur G. France, and a nephew, Kenneth France. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the First Church of Christ in Farmington. A private burial will take place in West Lane Cemetery.
