Craig J. Simonian, 59, of Newington, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 11, 2015
in New York.
Born in New Britain, he was the beloved son of Arthur and Lucy Rose (Yessian) Simonian. Craig was a former New Britain resident, where he graduated from Pulaski High School, class of 1974. He was also a former resident of Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Connecticut in 1978. He worked as an Accounting Software Consultant and CPA for McGraw Hill in New York City, and most recently for Moore Medical in Farmington. He was known for his kindness and generosity, always doing for others. Craig was also a devoted father, brother, uncle, and son.
Among his interests were chess (president of the Pulaski High School chess club), backgammon, and card playing. He was an avid fan of UCONN basketball, the New York Giants, and the New York Yankees, attending many games with his son Douglas. He also enjoyed father-daughter ski trips with Sara. Craig was a member of the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection where he served as a sub-deacon. He volunteered with Care for the Homeless in New York City, and also served as a coach and commissioner of the Rockville Centre Basketball League.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Sara Simonian, of San Diego, CA, his son, Douglas Simonian, of Rockville Centre, NY, his three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Mark Simonian of New Britain, Guy and Darlene Simonian of West Hartford, Arthur G. and Sylvia Simonian and his nieces, Megan and Lauren Simonian of Farmington, many dear cousins, and special Pulaski High School classmates.
Private funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1910 Stanley St., New Britain, CT 06053.
