Claire Lila Steeves Oberg, 67, of Plainville, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at New Britain General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bangor ME, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Claudia Houston Steeves. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Steeves of New Britain and Scott and Patricia Steeves of Kensington; a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and George Battis of Hatboro, PA; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gary and Irena Steeves of Plainville and Robert Steeves of Victory, TX; three grandchildren, Kara Wilczawski and her fiancee Christian Watson, Jamie Wilczawski and Autumn Steeves; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Claire graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1954. She was formerly employed at New Britain General Hospital for 25 years, where she volunteered in the gift shop. She was also employed at Bristol Hospital, and at Prohealth. Claire was a avid reader and bowler, and blessed many people with the beautiful items she crocheted and knitted. She was known for her deviled eggs at family parties. The family would like to extend special thanks to Claire's very good friends, Richard Kelly, Nancy Skelskey, Mary Otinsky; former daughter-in-law Diane Johansen, and friends at the Breakfast Club. They would like to express their grateful appreciation to Prohealth Physicians and employees for their special care and support, and to Hospice for their compassion and for bringing comfort. They would also like to thank Claire's many friends, relatives and acquaintances who showered her with cards, gifts, food, flowers, warm wishes and many visits. Funeral services will be held Thursday evening at 8:00 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain.
