Cherstin "Chet" A. (Lundberg) Thayer ended her life journey on March 8 at Pilgrim Manor, Cromwell, CT at the age of 92. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1939. She was formerly employed at Rockwood Sprinkler and Richard Healys. In 1959, she started what she called "the best job ever" as executive secretary to the Superintendent of the East Coast Conference of Covenant Churches with summers at Pilgrim Pines in West Swanzey, NH, retiring in 1985. She then worked part time for 19 years at Covenant Village, Cromwell, CT. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Bertil A. Lundberg, and a sister, Ruth A. Suklis. She is survived by her daughter, Susan M. O'Shea and husband Martin of Manchaug, MA; her son, Paul Thayer and wife Ann of Shrewsbury, MA; her grandchildren, Kim Smaltz and husband David of Charlton, MA, Wendy Henrickson and Scott Rees of Westminster, MD, Julie Thayer and Christopher Thayer of Boston, MA; her great-grandchildren, Jason Galloni, Dylan and Kerstin Smaltz, Hunter and Grayson Rees; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Regina Villaume and Ruby Anderson. She was a member of Salem Covenant Church for 40 years and Bethany Covenant Church for over 30 years, where she was involved in the sanctuary choir, handbell choir, and Covenant Women. Chet was a strong woman of faith, love and family and she will be missed by all who knew her. She loved to go to Pilgrim Pines and Wellfleet but what she liked best was to be with her family. The family wishes to thank the people at Covenant Village: Marisa & Cathy; Pineview and Pilgrim Manor staff: Becky, Anna, and the PT girls for the love and care that was shown to Chet. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 17, at 4 PM at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin, CT. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund at CVOC, 52 Missionary Rd., Cromwell, CT 06416 or to Pilgrim Pines, 220 East Shore Rd., W. Swanzey, NH 03446.
