Catherine A. Kunze

Catherine A. Kunze, 90, of Newington, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Jefferson House, Newington. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Minnie (Ritz) Kunze. She had been a longtime Newington resident after moving from New Britain in 1955. Catherine and her parents also spent many wonderful summers in Burlington, CT. She was an animal lover who adopted and found homes for countless stray dogs and cats. She also cared for the wild animals and birds in her backyard as if they were pets. Catherine did secretarial work in factories as a young woman, cared for her parents as they aged, and worked at the Newington Children's Hospital for many years. After she retired, Catherine spent several years as a volunteer at the Hospital of Central CT. Catherine was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her family would like to thank Maria Faria and her staff of care-givers on the Morgan Unit of Jefferson House for providing a loving community for Catherine for her final years. Catherine leaves her cousin and Godson Bruce Klotz and his wife Bonnie Adelson and her cousins Madeline Brandt, Gladys Klotz, Ray Michaelis, Bob Ziegler, Richard Hettlinger, Robert Hettlinger, William Klotz, Jane Sanger, and Ellen Zagajeski. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 295 Arch St., New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111, Fidelco, 103 Old Iron Ore Rd., Bloomfield, CT 06002, or St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 295 Arch St., New Britain, CT 06052. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain, CT is in charge of arrangements.
