OBITUARY: Carl W. Brolin Carl William Brolin, 83, of Torrington, a former long-time New Britain resident, died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 in Torrington, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Karl Gustav and Josephine Poglitsch Brolin. He was a long time New Britain resident before moving to Torrington in Jan. 2001. He was formerly employed at Emhart for 37 years as a foreman in the time keeping department, retiring in 1983. Carl was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was engaged in action aboard the USS Bunker Hill at Guam, Mariana Islands, Tarawa and Nauru, Gilbert Islands, Rabaul and New Britain Island. He was a devoted member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he had served on the Church Council for many years, as Property Chairman, as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Usher, and where he founded the Audio Ministry. He was also a member of the USS Bunker Hill Association, and the AARP. In his earlier years, he played with the New Britain Symphony and also served as a Boy Scout Leader. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Bernadette Moore Brolin; two sons, Carl R. Brolin and his wife Janice of Torrington, Kenneth W. Brolin and his wife Cynthia of Richmond, VA; a daughter, Audrey Brolin of New Britain; two granddaughters, Lisa Baca and her husband Michael of Torrington and Lorraine J. Brolin of Washington, D.C.; two great-grandsons, Ryan Baca and Colin Baca; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Caroline Brolin of New Britain; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Bernadette Moore Brolin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 5-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain.
