Bruce A. Thorstenson

Bruce Thorstenson was born in New Britain, CT, March 8, 1939. Back when New Britain General was just a grey house on the hill.

He grew up in West Hartford, attended Hartford Regional Technical School, studied automotive.

He began working at young age, swept out cobblers shops, added coal to furnaces, shoveled snow, delivered newspapers, mowed lawns, worked on cars, and even was a caddy for golfers often carried two golf bags at once. He worked for a vault/casket company.

He had an extraordinary impeccable work ethic, it preceded him throughout his life.

He met and fell head over heels in love with Sandra E. Page, they married on August 9, 1958.  They had children, in the early years in New Britain, moved to Plainville in 1969 and then he quit drinking and smoking to save up a deposit to build a home in Southington, April 1, 1975 has been his most commemorative date to be proud of. He was employed with Holmes Transportation for 27 years 1989, then ABF for ten years, total 37 Total years of service being a Teamster member of Local Unions 671 & 443.

The Thorstenson Family were members of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Britain for many years up until 1975 and since Bruce has remained a member of the First Lutheran Church in Southington.

Bruce retired on July 2001. He enjoyed a couple of Cruises, Bahamas & Bermuda, vacations to various places, he loved basking in the sun for he would have a beautiful tan and a movie star smile that lit up every time he entered a room.

He was a gentle giant, had a heart of gold, and was very generous with his heart, time and would give away his last cent to help anybody.
