Bessie Karlames Beresford, 89, of New Britain died Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald E. Beresford, Sr. for 45 years. Bessie was born April 10, 1916 in New Britain, daughter of the late Peter and Nota Politis Karlames. She resided in New Britain most of her life. She was a graduate of New Britain High School. Bessie worked at Fafnir Bearing during WWII and later at New Britain Machine and Landers, Frary & Clark where she met her future husband Ronald. After raising her four sons, she returned to work and was employed by the Walnut Hill Convalescent Home. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Bessie is survived by four sons and a daughter-in-law, Peter Beresford and his wife Eileen, Ronald Beresford and Philip Beresford, all of New Britain and James Beresford of Southington; three grandchildren, Amy, Lisa and Kevin Beresford all of New Britain; and three sisters, Alice Karlames, Elizabeth Karlames and Lettye Stathos all of New Britain. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lefteria and Mary, and a brother George. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6-8:00 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St. with a Trisagion service conducted by Rev. James Bogiatzis at 7:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main St. New Britain, CT 06052.
