Benjamin Anthony Vinci, 92, of New Britain passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013 (on his birthday) peacefully at home with his wife (of sixty-six years) and family by his side. Benjamin was and a lifelong resident of New Britain and the son of the late Lucian and Maria (Nisi) Vinci. He graduated from New Britain High. Ben, worked for New Britain Machine Company, and was the co-owner along with his brother Vincent "Jim", of B & V Centerless Grinding Co. in New Britain. He also was part owner of Vinci Jewelry and repaired watches. Ben was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Africa and Italy. He received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Metal. He met his wife while serving in Italy. Ben was a lifelong member of Saint Ann Church in New Britain. He was a member of the Italian Fraternal Society and the Generale Ameglio Italian Club. His love was his family. Ben enjoyed the Vinci Family parties, watch repairing, coin collecting, bike riding, gardening, fishing and trips to Italy, walks in Stanley Quarter Park, Sunday's at McDonalds with his brother Frank and the grandchildren and lunch with his brother Frank every day. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Brynes and Dr. Askari Jafri and their staff, the Andrew House, Reva and Simone from Always Best Care, Benjamin, the VNA, and Hospice for all the excellent care Ben received during his long illness. Surviving are his wife, Zinet (Bianchi) Vinci, two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Marcia Vinci of Charlotte, NC and Benjamin and Katherine Vinci of Kensington, and, one brother, Joseph Vinci of MA, two sisters, Pauline Soltis and her husband John Soltis of Forestville, and Delores Urso and her husband Carl Urso of AZ, one sister-in-law, Lorraine (Carling) Vinci of New Britain and FL, grandsons, Benjamin, Michael, Lucian, Peter and Anthony Vinci. Ben was predeceased by his siblings Frank Vinci, Chester Vinci, Jim Vinci, Rose Williams, Sophie Zipadelli, Lucy Bighinatti and Joan Pulcini. Calling hours are Sunday, May 12, 5-7 pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, at 10:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Ann Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Church, VNA Health Care, and Lymphoma Society.
