Asuncion Melendez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Asunción Melendez Santana, who peacefully entered eternal rest unexpectedly on November 27, 2025, at the age of 74. Born in San German, Puerto Rico, Asunción later settled in New Britain, Connecticut, where she built a life rooted in caretaking, homemaking, and nurturing her family.

Asunción was a woman of strong will and leadership. Consistently providing and ensuring the stability of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always offering her nurturing care. She enjoyed a peaceful life, indulging in baking and cooking as her favorite hobbies and enjoyed her novelas and coffee in her past time.

She is joining her long-time companion, Juan Bautista Colon in eternal rest; and leaves behind her three beloved children, Claribel Vega, Jeannette Vega, and Jennifer Vega, along with her cherished siblings, grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of her life. She is welcomed into heaven by her long-time companion Juan Bautista Colon, her father; Jose Luis Melendez and mother; Eva Miguelina Santana, as well as her sister Leida Melendez Santana who preceded her in death.

Those who knew Asunción will remember her unwavering love, generosity, and nurturing spirit. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, partner, sister, aunt, and friend, a woman whose presence brought warmth and comfort wherever she went.

She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her, but her memory and the love she shared will live on forever in the hearts of her family and those whose lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Private calling hours will be held on Friday, December 5th, 2025 at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain, for the immediate family members of Asunción Melendez Santana. A Mass of Christian Burial be Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Church in New Britain that is open to all who knew and loved her. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery immediately afterwards at 11:30 AM that will be open to all who knew and loved her.
