Aspasea "Bessie" Tierney

Aspasea “Bessie” (Morris) Tierney, 93, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2021.  She was born in Meriden, but moved to New Britain as a child and remained a lifelong resident of the city.  She was the daughter of the late John James Morris and Katharine (Kalotsoglou) Morris.  She was a graduate of New Britain High School and worked at the Health Department of the City of New Britain for many years.  She was married for 33 years to Walter Tierney until his death in 1987.

Bessie was totally dedicated to her family and was always there with her love, a hot meal and warm conversation.  She made good friends wherever she went with her sincerity and warm personality.  She was a lifelong member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain, greatly valuing her friends there and her Greek heritage.

Bessie is survived by a sister, Euphrosene “Flossie” Sfiridis of New Britain; a niece, Kathleen (Garrity) O’Leary of Plainville; three nephews, James Sfiridis and his wife, Deborah, of Farmington, George Sfiridis and his wife, Loretta, of Manchester and John Sfiridis of New Britain; two grand nieces, Stephanie Sfiridis of Washington, D.C. and Krista (Sfiridis) Evans of Phoenix, AZ; two grand nephews, Christopher O’Leary of Plainville, Michael O’Leary of San Francisco, CA; and a great grand nephew, Hayden O’Leary of Plainville.  She was predeceased by three brothers, James, Anthony and Andrew Morris, a sister, Mary (Morris) Garrity, and by her close friend and companion of 28 years, Lucien Archaki.

There will be no calling hours and the funeral will be private due to the COVID-19 advisory.  Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. May her memory be eternal.
