Arthur Howard Conger, 76, of Higganum, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, March 9, 2006 at New Britain General Hospital after a long illness. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Howard F. and Bessie Barks Conger. Arthur was a former resident of E. Berlin before moving to Higganum 26 years ago. He was formerly employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Kensington, where he was a member of the "Over the Hill Gang". Arthur was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Air Police-Canine Unit. Arthur loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and serving as a volunteer. Surviving are his beloved wife, Arline Heinzmann Conger; his daughter, Cheryl Salce and her fiance, Bill Fritz; two special grandchildren, Jennifer Salce and Jake Fritz, who he adored; a sister, Jane Gronback of Berlin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Randy Conger, who died unexpectedly on Thursday morning, March 9, 2006 Funeral services for both Randy and Arthur will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Kensington. Burial will follow in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin. There are no calling hours.
