Annibale Castrogiovanni (80), of Bristol, died peacefully surrounded by his loving wife of 60 years, daughters and grandchildren on August 18th, 2022. He is survived by his devoted wife Vincenza (DiMauro) Castrogiovanni. He was predeceased by his adoring daughter Lucia Castrogiovanni along with his parents Filippo Castrogiovanni and Carmela (Gallo) of Sicily.
Annibale will be dearly missed by his three daughters; Carmelinda Talarico and her husband Tony, Lucia Infante and her husband Kevin, Julie Castrogiovanni, his grandchildren whom he adored; Anthony Talarico Jr. and his wife Tammie, Vincenzo Infante and his wife Anisa, Michael Talarico and his fiancée Kayla Staggs, Isabella Castrogiovanni and her boyfriend Ryan Cassin, John Talarico and Thomas Infante. Towards the end of his life, Annibale was blessed to see his great-grandsons be born, Luciano and Leonardo Infante. He would light up everytime he saw them.
Annibale was born in Francofonte, Sicily. As a young boy he learned the artistry of baking bread and then went on to serve in the Italian Military. After serving in the military he and Vincenza moved to Switzerland for a short time before emigrating to the United States, residing in New Britain, CT. They later moved to Bristol where they lived for 44 years.
While in Connecticut, Annibale was well known for his craft of bricklaying. Later, he enjoyed the Roma Deli days, making pizza alongside his wife, his family, and their devoted customers for over 25 years.
Annibale was a man that loved his soccer and enjoyed watching his favorite team Juventus. His other interests were watching boxing as well as his Western, and Karate movies, and playing Scopa. Annibale had a passion for fishing. Old Lyme was his favorite spot where lasting memories were made. He also loved to garden with his wife, who he said she had the prettiest flowers. He was also a long time member of the Generale Ameglio Italian Civic Association in New Britain.
He will always be remembered as a strong, caring, and generous man with a big-heart. His strong-will and determination enabled him to battle his illnesses for many years. Let him be an inspiration to others who are dealing with an illness or adversity.
The Castrogiovanni family would like to express their deep appreciation to his long term cardiologist and other long term care physicians. In addition to the medical staff of the Hospital of Central CT, we would also like to extend our gratitude to all his home caretakers for their wonderful care, as well as, family members for their many acts of kindness and support during his long term illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 22 at 11:00 AM at St. Jerome Church, St. Katherine Drexel Parish. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are Monday morning from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain.
